My name is Kristin Hanson Gonzalez. I am a mother of 4, a wife of 1 and a friend of many. I hold a PhD in a branch of biology called biogeochemistry.
In my professional life I have been a a college biology professor, middle and high school math and science teacher, a field biologist in the North Dakota oil patch, run a chemistry lab and even been a marine biology teacher on a glass bottom boat in Hawaii. My latest project was as science consultant for a nationally acclaimed and award winning author, Polly Holyoke, for her best-selling book series entitled “The Neptune Project” and “The Neptune Challenge.”
Currently, I live and work with my family in Bend, Oregon.
I decided to start this blog project to share my passion for research with everyone. I’m a factoid and science nerd. This gal can’t get enough of reading and digesting current research in scientific journals and studies posted on my favorite evidence-based websites. The library staff at the public and college libraries know me well because I am always reading the new releases on nutrition, education, child development, health, biochemistry, and neuroscience. I have an entire database full of bookmarks and folders on topics that interest me.
Why not let everyone in the blogosphere benefit from my investigations?
One of my pet peeves is reading information on websites or in blogs that is clearly inaccurate but is assumed to be true. The author may even go to the effort of reading the abstract of the scientific article, but lacks the expertise on what to look for in a well constructed study. Often the title of an article appears alarming, but upon reading the entire study, the results are weak or inconclusive. Or maybe the research should be viewed with a skeptical eye because a company who’s interests are involved, has funded the research!
I am here to unravel the confusion. Only solid science for me, no internet hearsay! I read the science, so you don’t have to.
